Personalised social matching systems can be seen as recommender systems that recommend people to others in the social networks. However, with the rapid growth of users in social networks and the information that a social matching system requires about the users, recommender system techniques have become insufficiently adept at matching users in social networks. This paper presents a hybrid social matching system that takes advantage of both collaborative and content-based concepts of recommendation. The clustering technique is used to reduce the number of users that the matching system needs to consider and to overcome other problems from which social matching systems suffer, such as cold start problem due to the absence of implicit information about a new user. The proposed system has been evaluated on a dataset obtained from an online dating website. Empirical analysis shows that accuracy of the matching process is increased, using both user information explicit data and user behavior implicit data. Unable to display preview.

Biological systems are complex. We argue that one way of untangling these hairballs is through cross-disciplinary network comparison—leveraging advances in other disciplines to obtain new biological insights. In some cases, such comparisons enable the direct transfer of mathematical formalism between disciplines, precisely describing the abstract associations between entities and allowing us to apply a variety of sophisticated formalisms to biology. In cases where the detailed structure of the network does not permit the transfer of complete formalisms between disciplines, comparison of mechanistic interactions in systems for which we have significant day-to-day experience can provide analogies for interpreting relatively more abstruse biological networks.

All is fair in electronic love and dating — or is it? The battle for hearts and minds of couples seeking their perfect match online has taken a new turn. If you’re a flirty mobile warrior Tindering on the brink or Bumbling from one swipe to the next be aware there’s another game in town as Facebook muscles in to place its own tanks on the lawn. As online dating becomes the virtual norm, some experts suggest half of all British couples will meet that way come the end of the decade and Facebook’s gradual arrival on the dating scene, launched progressively in the Americas and Southeast Asia, looks set to shake up the market.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said last month he saw the company as moving towards the forefront of online dating having promised at the outset a service “for building real long-term relationships. But rivals are not quaking in their boots just yet, despite the size of the social media giant’s global footprint with more than 2 billion monthly active users some of whose data it now could leverage for romantic purposes. Contacted by AFP, Facebook was not able to say exactly when it would launch its dating variant in Europe.
Early had been the mooted target but on the eve of Valentine’s Day, this Friday, its rivals were still waiting with bated breath to see what effect such a storied — and free — competitor may have. Pillot said Facebook has “copied everything which worked well on other applications and added two or three functionalities. What interests them is getting users to link in the sharing of private content. In my view, no, as what marks out a social network is the sharing of information — whereas dating moves into the intimate sphere,” he said.
Clementine Lalande, the co-founder of the French dating app Once, which only allows a user to select one profile a day, notes that “the big problem with generalist applications is you end up with a mass of users who don’t share the same interest communities. We assist the customer with all their paying points and find the best solution for their needs.
It was a very scary time as solar rebates were going so fast and at one point they were completely on hold for a number of months.
Matchmaking is the process of matching two or more people together, usually for the purpose of marriage , but the word is also used in the context of sporting events such as boxing, in business, in online video games and in pairing organ donors. In some cultures, the role of the matchmaker was and is quite professionalised. The Ashkenazi Jewish shadchan , or the Hindu astrologer , were often thought to be essential advisors and also helped in finding right spouses as they had links and a relation of good faith with the families.
In cultures where arranged marriages were the rule, the astrologer often claimed that the stars sanctified matches that both parents approved of, making it quite difficult for the possibly-hesitant children to easily object — and also making it easy for the astrologer to collect his fee. Social dance , especially in frontier North America, the contra dance and square dance , has also been employed in matchmaking, usually informally.
However, when farming families were widely separated and kept all children on the farm working, marriage-age children could often only meet in church or in such mandated social events. Matchmakers, acting as formal chaperones or as self-employed ‘busybodies’ serving less clear social purposes, would attend such events and advise families of any burgeoning romances before they went too far. The influence of such people in a culture that did not arrange marriages, and in which economic relationships e.
It may be fair to say only that they were able to speed up, or slow down, relationships that were already forming. In this sense they were probably not distinguishable from relatives, rivals, or others with an interest. Clergy probably played a key role in most Western cultures, as they continue to do in modern ones, especially where they are the most trusted mediators in the society. Matchmaking was certainly one of the peripheral functions of the village priest in Medieval Catholic society, as well as a Talmudic duty of rabbis in traditional Jewish communities.
Today, the shidduch is a system of matchmaking in which Jewish singles are introduced to one another in Orthodox Jewish communities. Matchmakers trade on the belief that romantic love is something akin to a human right , and the modern online dating service is just one of many examples of a dating system where technology is invoked almost as a magic charm with the capacity to bring happiness.

World Wide Web , 17 3 , pp. View at publisher. A people-to-people matching system or a match-making system refers to a system in which users join with the objective of meeting other users with the common need. Some real-world examples of these systems are employer-employee in job search networks , mentor-student in university social networks , consume-to-consumer in marketplaces and male-female in an online dating network.
The network underlying in these systems consists of two groups of users, and the relationships between users need to be captured for developing an efficient match-making system. Most of the existing studies utilize information either about each of the users in isolation or their interaction separately, and develop recommender systems using the one form of information only. It is imperative to understand the linkages among the users in the network and use them in developing a match-making system.
This study utilizes several social network analysis methods such as graph theory, small world phenomenon, centrality analysis, density analysis to gain insight into the entities and their relationships present in this network. By using these analyses and the proposed type of graph, an efficient hybrid recommender system is developed which generates recommendation for new users as well as shows improvement in accuracy over the baseline methods. These databases contain citations from different subsets of available publications and different time periods and thus the citation count from each is usually different.
Some works are not in either database and no count is displayed. Repository Staff Only: item control page. QUT Home Contact. Home Browse About.
